Integrity
What thoughts or ideas come to mind when you read this word?
Integrity generally refers to the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles, and adhering to a code of ethics. It involves maintaining consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, and principles, in various contexts, integrity can have specific meanings:
- Pesronal Integrity: in an individual context, personal integrity refers to the consistency of one’s actions, values, methods, and principles. It involves being truthful, honest, and reliable.
- Professional Integrity: in a professional setting, integrity involves maintaining high ethical standards in one’s work and interactions. It includes honesty, reliability, and a commitment to doing what is right, even when faced with tough decisions.
Integrity is often considered a fundamental value in personal and professional life. It contributes to trust, credibility, and the overall well-being of individuals and organizations.
The bible says:
“It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.” (Ecc. 5:5 NASB)
In other words, our yes is YES and our no is NO. This leaves no wiggle room.
How often do we offer more than we can deliver? Do we paint a picture that is overly rosy? Do we dangle a carrot in front of others that will be hard to meet?
It can be incredibly challenging to say it like it is. When circumstances change, we struggle to meet our commitments.
Here’s a thought: do what we said we will do, and let God sort out the consequences. He will honor a stand that is done in line with His requirements of us.
As we live by the Word of God, we keep our promises, have a successful life, experience fulfilling relationships, run a successful business as well as being looked to as a person having genuine influence.
